The Color Run

If you have never heard/thought about doing The Color Run. Think again!!

The Color Run is a 5K "fun run". It's known as "The World's Happiest 5K", and it definitely was awesome!! The Color Run is a non-profit organization that supports the Back on My Feet organization to help the homeless. People of all ages are welcome to participate, I saw women pushing strollers through the race! And it is a very casual race, it's not timed, and our start time was between 7am-7:45am. You can walk, run, or jog!

I ran the color run in Philadelphia, PA with 4 of my lovely friends, Anna, Jaci, Alex and Megan. We stayed the night before and woke up to get our run on.

While running I was so excited, the first color we reached was yellow, and after I ran through it I was covered in color. I also didn't expect to inhale corn starch in my mouth. It tasted like chalk, but it was okay, I was so excited to see the next color. Then we reached pink, then blue, then orange, and before you knew it, it was over.

At the end of the race, they have a party! There was music, and dancing, and about every 10-15 minutes people were throwing their packets of color in the air and you were covered in every color possible. Only color I really wanted and didn't get was green :(

Later, we spent the day in Philly. Venturing through the Reading Market, City Hall, Love Park, The Museum of Art and "The Rocky Stairs". Then we ended up at the Eastern State Penitentiary. Not my cup of tea, but it was neat to see the inside.

Over all a great, exhausting trip. To anyone who is or isn't a runner, start with The Color Run!

I always hated running, then I started training for this, and by training I mean interval running when I wanted to, and I learned I'm actually a better runner than I once thought. I was so proud of myself for doing this, and the next thing on my list is to be able to run it without stopping, because I definitely took some breathers during this race.

Go forth and run! :)

Ps: One thing I forgot to mention, IF you plan to run this, here are some recommendations:

  1. Wear eye protection! The paint is only corn starch, but it does make it very hard to see!
  2. Don't wear anything you wouldn't mind getting marked up.
  3. After the race is over, you might think that you'll permanently be colorful, you won't!! Trust me, when I got home I took a shower and all but a tiny bit came off. You'll be fine!!
  4. If you have blonde hair, wear it dirty to the race, that way the corn starch comes out easier!
  5. If you plan to venture the city you're in, don't be surprised by the looks and comments you get throughout the day. This one lady told us she thought we were just dirty :/
HAVE FUN!
